How to Configure Dial-Up Networking

Follow these steps to configure Dial-Up Networking for Windows 95,98 & ME.
Step 1 Locate the My Computer icon on your desktop and double-click it with the mouse.
Step 2 Double-click the Dial-Up Networking icon
NOTE: Users of Windows ME will find this icon in the Control Panel

If you don't see this icon Click Here
Step 3 Double-click the Make New Connection icon
Step 4 In the box labeled Type a name for the computer you are dialing type Wall Internet
Click the Next Button.
Step 5 Type the area code and access number in the boxes. Click the Next button.
Step 6 Click the Finish button at the bottom the the box.
Step 7 Put the mouse pointer on the Wall Internet Icon and click the Right mouse button. A small box will appear, select Properties.
Step 8 In the Properties window click on the Server Types label. You will now see a window similar to the one on the right.
Make sure that option Type of Dial-Up Server is set for PPP:....
There are some checkboxes in this window that need to be changed. Use the mouse to select these two options...
  • Enable software compression
  • TCP/IP
All other checkboxes should be unselected.
Click OK to save these options.
Step 9 Put the mouse pointer on the Wall Internet Icon and click the Right mouse button. A small box will appear, select Create Shortcut. Windows will now ask you if you want the shortcut placed on your desktop. Click Yes.

You can now close all opened windows and return to your desktop.
Step 10 Double-click the icon on your desktop labeled Shortcut to Wall Internet.
Step 11 Type your username and password into the boxes and click the Connect Button. Your modem should now dial the phone and connect you to Wall Internet. Once you are connected you may run your internet software such as Netscape or Internet Explorer.
